Dr. Lawrence Pintak:
State of Coverage

In this session, Dr. Pintak takes a look at how objectively American media are covering Islam as well as other minorities, and how our cultural and personal views can distort our reporting.
Lawrence Pintak is the founding dean of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. He is a veteran journalist who has reported from the Middle East and broader Muslim world for more than 30 years and now writes and lectures on America's relationship with the Muslim world and the role of the media in shaping international relations.
His most recent books include The New Arab Journalist: Mission and Identity in a Time of Turmoil and Reflections in a Bloodshot Lens: America, Islam & the War of Ideas.
Dr. Pintak has developed a NewsU course, ‘Islam for Journalists: A Crash Course for Reporters’, at http://online.wsu.edu/courses/islam/islamforjournalists.aspx.
