VCOM 2950 Visual Communication Applications

Instructor: Phil Loubere

Typography

Effective use of type will be relevant to several of the assignments in this course, in particular the InDesign assignments. It is also one of the conceptual topics we will cover, and will be one of three main topics relevant to the first part of the midterm and final exams.

So this page will cover typography, both conceptually and practically.

These three videos will provide an overview of typography, and using type in the InDesign assignments.

Summary

Hopefully what you got out of the videos are these key points:
• The historical origins of typefaces in use today
• How type is classified by group, typeface or family, and font
• Common terminology and measuring systems used in typography
• Ways of adjusting or modifying type on a page
