On behalf of the alumni, students, faculty and staff of the School of Journalism, we welcome you to one of the most innovative journalism programs in the country!

Our program, which features concentrations in advertising, journalism, media studies, public relations, and visual communication, is committed to providing the highest quality of education and training for every student. We are focused on preparing the next generation of leaders in the changing journalism and mass communication industries.

We are delighted to be on the forefront of these changes by maintaining a distinguished faculty who understand the duties, responsibilities and privileges of journalists and communication professionals in our democracy. The School of Journalism emphasizes the fundamentals—writing, reporting and ethics—with a serious eye on contemporary trends such as social media, integrated marketing and entrepreneurialism.

We are proud of our close associations with Sidelines, the independent student newspaper, WMOT, Middle Tennessee’s public radio alternative, and student organizations such as the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), the Ad Club, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), just to name a few. We are a chapter of Kappa Tau Alpha, the nation’s only honor society in journalism in mass communication. These are just a few of the many exciting developments at the MTSU School of Journalism.

We invite you to join us as we promote public communication through study, research and practice. Give us a call or send us your comments, and come visit us in person.
